Cardiff City managed a third win in the last five matches

Cardiff City managed a third win in the last five matches after a 2-0 success over Birmingham City during the weekend.

The victory helped Cardiff move to 14th in the table. It makes them no closer towards the play-off places, as Ipswich Town occupying the final play-off spot are still 16 points ahead of them with one less match remaining in the season. Despite this, manager Russell Slade was happy with the performance of his players after the match. Owen Doyle opened the scoring after 15 minutes while Peter Whittingham scored from the penalty spot after 76 minutes.

Assistant manager Scott Young also reflected on this victory by saying that it was pleasing to get a clean sheet. Cardiff have not enjoyed a great defensive record in the league this season. Their last clean sheet came almost a month ago in the 1-0 victory over Wigan. Comments to such a situation have been flying in from the fans, but Slade will be able to prepare with confidence for the next match against Reading. The relegation threatened outfit still have everything to play for in the remainder of the campaign unlike Cardiff, who may allow their concentration to drift. There are seven matches left in the season.
