KEEP ALL THE BIG PLAYERS
Cardiff City captain Mark Hudson has said that the club should be looking at the possibility of retaining all the big names, despite missing out on the play-off final. Cardiff have suffered a number of disappointments in this stage of the competition. They were defeated by Reading a few seasons back prior to getting into the finals, while they were beaten by Blackpool 3-2 in 2010. They once again suffered heartbreak at the play-off stage after exiting following a 5-0 aggregate loss to favourites West Ham. Cardiff lost the first leg encounter 2-0, but were even poor in the second leg at Upton Park.
However, Hudson has said that the club should be looking at the possibility of retaining some of the key players like Peter Whittingham, who has been linked with a move away from the club should they miss out on the chance to be promoted to the Premier league. Peter Whittingham was recently named in the Championship team of the year by the PFA, which clearly shows his importance to the team. However, with Cardiff unable to get promotion to the Premier league after many attempts, this looks finally to be the last straw for Peter Whittingham.
“You want to keep your quality players and Pete over the season has been fantastic again. I couldn’t rave about him enough, he always works hard and he never misses a game. If you look at how many games he’s played this season he’s always been there, trying his best, working as hard as he can for the cause. You do need to keep hold of those sort of players, but we’ll see, we’re trying to keep everyone together,” said captain Hudson. Hudson also said that he believes the club can return strong next season just as they have did in previous years.
