Derby County is reported to be lining up £14 million bid for Bristol City player Jonathan Kodija, despite having just splashed £8 million to get Matej Vydra this summer.
The prospects of putting up the signings in Paul Trollope’s 5-3-2 formation seem exciting. The signings are sure to make the Championship a two tiered division financially, particularly as parachute payments are set to end for Cardiff. Cardiff are reported to be set o leave the top tier football division.
The additions to Derby are exciting, not just because of the huge sums involved but of the likely change in the formation. For some seasons, the squad has been using the 4-3-3 formation, with Nigel Peterson not ready for the change. The system leaves room for only Chris Martin as striker, even though he is one of the finest players outside the Premier League.
In the reserves, there’s Darren Bent, talented Red Devils youngster James Wilson, and £3 million signing Nick Blackma. The combined transfer fees are up to £50 million. Also, there’s Andreas Weimann, Tom Ince, Johnny Russell, and Abdoul Camara which Cardiff have to deal with.
