IMPRESSIVE

Cardiff City have been one of the impressive teams in the Championship this season, and it is not surprising to see them lead the table by a massive 10 points. Not satisfied with the quality within the team, the manager recruited players like the Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell during the January transfer window. The former Manchester United man made a match-winning debut for the team in the recent match against Leeds United. Campbell scored after just 2 min after being introduced as a substitute in the match. The 1-0 victory helped Cardiff open a 10 point advantage at the top of the table.

After the match, the manager Malky Mackay has praised the striker by saying that he has quickly embedded himself into the work ethic of the team. Due to the fact that he is intelligent, he will be able to score goals on a consistent basis. Mackay has said that Campbell has not played a lot of football recently, and he will improve as he gets regular game time at Cardiff. The 1-0 victory over Leeds was the fifth successive win that the team had achieved in the league. This has helped them restore the 10 point advantage over Leicester City. Cardiff have not dropped more than two points in the last seven matches.

“I am delighted for Fraizer. He is very humble and has rapidly bought into our team ethic. He is a willing runner and an intelligent footballer who knows where the goal is. He has not played a lot of football lately so the mind was willing and the flesh was weak, but he will soon be up to speed. We needed to get him match minutes, but at the same time we need to protect him [having] not played too much football recently,” said Mackay.

PROMOTION BECKONS

After many years of struggle and the disappointment with the play-offs, Cardiff City are finally looking good to get into the Premier league. They are currently top of the Championship and they will be qualifying for the Premier league automatically if they finish in the same position at the end of the season. The Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has been praised for the way he has transformed the fortunes of the club since taking over recently. Mackay has said that the work is not complete yet and he has demanded an almost boring like consistency from his team in the remainder of the season.

The club has been in imperious form over the last few months in the Championship. They have suffered only one defeat since the 5-4 defeat at the hands of Charlton athletic at the start of November. This incredible form has meant that they have opened a six-point advantage at the top of the table over the second placed Hull City. There are 20 games remaining in the championship, which means that there is every possibility of Cardiff dropping down from the top. As a result, Mackay has said that his players need to maintain their focus over the next few months of the campaign.

“It’s great to be where we are right now, but I spoke about monotonous consistency and that is what I want to see now. We want to have that. We want to keep grinding the machine on. We have a good group of players here now, but what we have to realise is the team in front of us is the next big challenge. It is far too early for anyone here to get carried away about going up,” said MacKay. Cardiff recently suffered a surprising exit from the third round of the FA Cup at the hands of Macclesfield town.

SUPPORT JONES

The Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has said that he wants the supporters to give the former manager Dave Jones of the best welcomes when he visits the ground for the first time since leaving the club. Dave Jones will be bringing his current club Sheffield Wednesday looking to get something out of this match, as they are currently in the relegation zone. He was replaced by Malky Mackay last season and he has so far done a stellar job at Cardiff after guiding them to the top of the table this season. Jones failed for a number of occasions in the play-offs to get promotion to the Premier league with Cardiff City.

He spent six seasons at the club and suffered a number of heart breaks in the play-offs for most of the time. Mackay has praised the achievements of his predecessor at the club by saying that taking the club to numerous play-off finals and an FA Cup final is a great achievement. This should be recognised by the supporters and they should give him a warm welcome. Cardiff have been excellent in the last few matches, as they have dropped just two points in the last four matches. Even though this is a momentous occasion, Mackay wants his players to concentrate on the job at hand.

“To even be at a football club for six years is a huge time. Dave oversaw the move from Ninian Park to the new stadium, took them to the FA Cup final and the play-offs. I think that’s a good achievement. When a manager is sacked people want change, but I hope with time most people will look at the whole period someone was at a club and assess things,” said Mackay. Cardiff City are two points behind Crystal Palace in the table.

HUDSON KEEPS THE FAITH

The Cardiff city captain Mark Hudson has said that he will not be changing his game as a result of being extremely close to suspension following the activation of cards so far this campaign. Hudson has already received for yellow cards this season. Normally, receiving five yellow cards through the season will result in a suspension. Due to the fact that Cardiff city are starting to find form at just the right stage in the season, it has been rumoured that the manager will be asking Hudson to maintain his discipline in order to have him for the big matches.

The captain of the club, though, has rejected the idea of limiting himself in order to not pick another yellow card. Cardiff city managed a very impressive 4-0 win over Burnley during the weekend. After the match, the captain said that his style of play means that it will be very difficult for him to pull out of challenges. Hence, there is always the risk of getting booked for a rash challenge. It Cardiff city are currently top of the Championship table with 28 points on the board. The lead Leicester City, who are their closest challengers, by three points having played 13 matches apiece.

“If the fifth booking comes then we have to deal with that, but it’s no good working too hard to avoid it. We have played well at home and there was some top-quality flowing football against Burnley. It was an all-round team display with everybody playing their part. Kim came into the team, was calm in possession and kept things moving. He is learning English well and showed he was ready for what was an outstanding debut,” said Hudson after the Burnley match. Cardiff will be playing against the recently relegated club Bolton Wanderers next weekend.

DO NOT EXPECT ATTACKING FOOTBALL

The Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has said that the fans should not expect a wonderful attacking display from his side each week. Malky Mackay has said that he was extremely pleased to see his team play wonderful attacking football in the recent 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Malky Mackay had opted for the 4-4-2 formation in the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers and it paid rich dividends. His side was extremely good in attacking, but the manager has said that it will be the flexibility of switching between attack and defence that will help them win the championship this season.

Cardiff city have been extremely unlucky in the first to get back into the Premier league, as they have been defeated on a number of occasions in the play-offs. As a result, the manager has targeted the promotion via the automatic spots rather than the play-off spot this time around. Despite their repeated failure in their attempts to get promotion, Cardiff city still remain as one of the major sides favourite for promotion. Cardiff city have made a decent start to the season with two wins out of the four matches played. As result, they sit in the eighth position just two points behind the leaders Blackpool.

“Things might change in a minute. We will adapt to who we are facing and of course with which players I have available. Players are going to have to be flexible, but we are working on things and hopefully can get better and better. Last season there was a limit to what we could do, we could not change things around as much as I would have liked and some players played more games than ideally they should have,” said Mackay after the Wolverhampton Wanderers match. Cardiff will be playing against Leeds United this weekend.

CARDIFF FRUSTRATE BRIGHTON

The Cardiff city manager Malky Mackay has said that he is extremely surprised about the defensive order within his side. Cardiff managed to frustrate Brighton in a recent match between the two clubs. The match finished as a 0-0 draw, which did not help the cause for Brighton. Brighton and Hove Albion were looking to get into the promotion spot, but they have just one victory in the three matches. After the match, the Cardiff manager Malky Mackay said that the point taken from the game was a tribute to the defensive organisation of his team. This was the second consecutive clean sheet of the season for the bluebirds.

As a result of this point, Cardiff stay within the play-offs position in the Championship table. Malky Mackay accepted the fact that Brighton had the better of the chances. However, he has said that his side were extremely organised in such a way that they were able to limit the number of chances created by the opposition. Brighton had only five shots on target. As a result of this excellent start to the season, Cardiff have a great opportunity to build on the success achieved in the last few seasons.

“We have kept back-to-back clean sheets and we are certainly happy with that. Brighton are a quality team but we restricted them to five shots on target. We missed two chances from three yards – Heidar Helguson and Etien Velikonja both going close to scoring – but we kept the ball really well and that part of our game got better and better. It was an entertaining match and a draw was probably a fair result,” said Malky Mackay after the match. Cardiff need to maintain the defensive form because they will be facing the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds united in the next few matches.

FANS SHOULD ACCEPT CHANGES

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has said that fans should accept the changes that the club has made with respect to its colours. Cardiff city are well known as the club that holds blue coloured to the heart. However, they recently have confirmed that they will be playing in red colours from next season onwards. This move has infuriated the fans who have been following the club for many years. The Malaysian investor has said in the statement following his move that it is in the best interests of the club that the club has decided to move to red colour.

The Championship club are expected to be receiving around £ 100 million in new investment from the Malaysian investor. He has also revealed the details of the investment that will follow in the subsequent seasons, as Cardiff city look to get into the Premier league after a long gap. Vincent Tan has made investments in the club to the tune of £ 40 million in the last two seasons. However, he has revealed that he will now be increasing the investment to around £ 100 million shortly. This news, however, is unlikely to please the fans, who are extremely angry at this decision by the club to play in red.

“I would like to emphasise that I hold no desire to trample on club history or heritage and would be saddened if supporters thought that this was my intention. I believe that our club has great potential, but in order to realise that potential real world business and financial decisions need to be made at the appropriate and opportune time. As investors, we are duty bound to explore ways in which we feel the club can grow over the long term,” said Vincent Tan in a statement issued on the official site of the club.

KEEP ALL THE BIG PLAYERS

Cardiff City captain Mark Hudson has said that the club should be looking at the possibility of retaining all the big names, despite missing out on the play-off final. Cardiff have suffered a number of disappointments in this stage of the competition. They were defeated by Reading a few seasons back prior to getting into the finals, while they were beaten by Blackpool 3-2 in 2010. They once again suffered heartbreak at the play-off stage after exiting following a 5-0 aggregate loss to favourites West Ham. Cardiff lost the first leg encounter 2-0, but were even poor in the second leg at Upton Park.

However, Hudson has said that the club should be looking at the possibility of retaining some of the key players like Peter Whittingham, who has been linked with a move away from the club should they miss out on the chance to be promoted to the Premier league. Peter Whittingham was recently named in the Championship team of the year by the PFA, which clearly shows his importance to the team. However, with Cardiff unable to get promotion to the Premier league after many attempts, this looks finally to be the last straw for Peter Whittingham.

“You want to keep your quality players and Pete over the season has been fantastic again. I couldn’t rave about him enough, he always works hard and he never misses a game. If you look at how many games he’s played this season he’s always been there, trying his best, working as hard as he can for the cause. You do need to keep hold of those sort of players, but we’ll see, we’re trying to keep everyone together,” said captain Hudson. Hudson also said that he believes the club can return strong next season just as they have did in previous years.

CARDIFF SLIP IN SEMI-FINALS

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has said that referee Mike Dean is responsible for his side’s defeat in the first leg of the Carling cup semi-final. Cardiff City lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace in the Carling cup semifinals and now face an uphill task to make it into the finals.

This is a great opportunity for a Championship side to win one of the four major tournaments for English clubs. Predictably, Malky Mackay was unhappy with the way his side were denied the equaliser in the 59th minute. The only consolation for Cardiff City will be in the form of the second leg, which will be at home.

Still, Malky Mackay was very annoyed after the match in which Crystal Palace secured a win. Referee Mike Dean had blown the whistle for a foul on the Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni. It would have been a great equaliser for Cardiff City after Kenny Miller’s header appeared to have provided the necessary response from Malky Mackay’s men. Anthony Gardner scored in the 43rd-minute with a good header, which places Crystal Palace in a great position to take on Cardiff City in the second leg against the two sides on January 24.

“He’s had an absolute howler. Anyone that will see the pictures will probably tell you that. Not one of our players has gone anywhere near the goalkeeper, which is what he’s suggested the foul was for,” said Mackay referring to the referee Mike Dean. Meanwhile, in the other semi-final, Liverpool overcame Premier League leaders Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in a closely fought encounter. Liverpool took the lead through Steven Gerrard’s penalty, which ultimately proved to be the winner. As it stands, Liverpool will be facing Crystal Palace in the final of the Carling cup.
